Applications for the 2025 Somatic IFS Costa Rica Retreats are now open!

As the leaf and flower buds are bursting forth, planning for these two annual Somatic IFS retreats has been underway. The Week 1 Somatic IFS Costa Rica Retreat will be February 8-15 and the Week 2 Retreat will be February 22-March 1.

The Somatic IFS Retreats are the first step of the two Somatic IFS programs open to those who have completed at least a Level 1 IFS-I Training. There is a maximum of thirty participants for each retreat. IFS-CE credits are available.

These thirty-hour, seven-day Step 1 retreats are an opportunity to explore your internal family through experiencing the practices of Somatic IFS—awareness, breathing, resonance, movement, and touch—as they integrate with the IFS Model. Experiential exercises, journaling, and small group interactions bring awareness and compassion to the nonverbal expression of the individual hurts and societal burdens lodged in our tissues, leading us to the essence of our being.

This retreat will be held at the Pura Vida Retreat and Spa in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

Many return every year for this Somatic IFS Retreat to enjoy the beautiful, tranquil setting, delicious healthy food, the exceptional bodywork and spa treatments, yoga, and the midweek excursions—whitewater rivers, waterfalls, active volcanoes, hot springs, and wildlife.

This Step 1 Somatic IFS program is an experiential retreat, not a formal training in Somatic IFS. Completion of the Step 1 programs is required for participation in the Step 2 Somatic IFS Trainings that bring Somatic IFS into your clinical practice. The Step 2 Trainings include live demonstrations and extensive supervised practice.

You can apply for either of these Costa Rica retreats today, April 1. Please visit my website www.embodiedself.net for information and to access the registration form. You will be notified of the acceptance of your application within a few days, after which you will be contacted by Shina from R & R Resorts to make your deposit and select your accommodation. Upon receipt of your $550 nonrefundable deposit, your participation in the retreat will be secured.

Retreat Pricing

Upcoming Spring Somatic IFS Programs Led by Somatic IFS Staff

1) Marcella Cox, LMFT, Certified IFS Therapist will be presenting on An Embodied Approach to Healing with Somatic IFS at the Tri-State Eating Disorder Conference, being held in-person and virtually on April 12 & 13, 2024. Professional and IFS CEs are available for this retreat.

Dick Schwartz will be providing an overview of how the IFS Model is reshaping the landscape of disordered eating treatment, followed by Marcella’s presentation.

Here is an excerpt from her talk:

Burdens from traumatic and devaluing experiences disrupt embodiment, and our dominant culture encourages us to objectify and disconnect from our bodies. The session will explore the importance of embodiment in healing, focusing on Somatic Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach to work with clients’ systems who struggle with disordered eating. Somatic IFS provides additional tools to bring clients back home to their body—to work with the managers and firefighters using the body to protect, and the exiles using the body to tell their stories.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in experiential Somatic IFS practices working with their own parts. This presentation will provide participants with a framework for using Somatic IFS interventions with their clients struggling with disordered eating.

2) Somatic IFS Retreat in Utah May 15-19, 2024.

Led by Marcella Cox and LaDonna Silva, both LMFTs, Certified IFS and Somatic IFS therapists and SIFS Staff Members
